Sony MDR-ZX300 headphonesI stumbled upon these headphones by accident recently. I was checking out a local electronics store called BrandsMart U.S.A. because I was told it was comparable to a Big Lots for electronics store. It was huge with lots of selection and some seemingly good deals here and there

I wasn't looking for anything in particular but had recently lost ear buds during vacation so needed a replacement. I immediately went to these because I seen they were $10. Yes, I wasn't looking to spend a lot, so this was an attention getter.

It's hard trying be an audiophile on a budget sometimes and I am always hesitant to go cheap when it comes to listening devices be it speaker, headphones, or ear buds. Sony, in my experience, has always been a hit or miss in this department.

I have had some nice sounding ear buds in the past that were reasonably priced at $20 or less. I've also had some headphones that were thin in sound and not well designed. So I wasn't sure what I was going to get with this purchase.

The first use, I immediately realized there was no left or right indicators on the headphones. I did notice one side had different color accent piece and it is possible the instructions had information regarding the meaning of the color but, instructions were tossed as soon as the package was opened. I couldn't see any need for them really but hindsight, maybe for this instance it would have been wise to keep them.

The next thing I noticed was the wide range of lateral movement for the ear pads. Each rotates enought to fit well not matter which way one wears the headphones. I also found it was comfortable enough to wear them with the loop hanging over my back vs. head while listening for good for those that don't want to mess up their hair.

The fit with the adjustable headband and these rotating ear pads is astonishingly comfy. I can wear them all day long and they never get tiring.

Sound quaility really surprised me too. These have a nice flat sound that is neither harsh on the high end nor filled with nasty low end resonance. They pack enough bass to make the music sound lively and thick without over doing it. The highs are very natural and smooth and all together it brings a very nice overall frequency response that is rare in this price range. I give them a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Not perfect but hard to beat for the price.
