I was reading a book online called 'The Digital Matte Painting Handbook' by David B. Mattingly, because I have always been interested in scene creation for movies and ran across an interesting quote.
One rule for author's students said, "Set up mood playlists on iTunes. My students laugh when I assign this musical exercise, but many have become believers. I have found that music is a direct pathway to the emotional centers of your mind."
I totally agree. I couldn't imagine working without music when I am trying to really focus on hitting that creative zone especially in an environment such as a large office with lots of people and distractions as I face today.
Headphones are the weapons of choice for most creatives in these situations. I prefer the noise isolating type too. I am actually using the larger, over-the-ear type currrently. The running office joke is, "Where's your turntables?"
